Abstract

In his (lost) notebooks, Ramanujan recorded an asymptotic expansion for a partial theta series

and many $q$-series identities involving partial or false theta series.

These theta-like series appear frequently in the study of partition function, knot theory, quantum invariants, and etc.

In this talk, I will discuss their roles in $q$-series and related areas with emphasizes on asymptotic behaviors,

modular properties, and $q$-combinatorics.
